Currently Xbox Live Anywhere isn't available yet, but it will soon be released to Windows 10 machines. If you've setup your Mac with Windows 10 on Boot Camp and installed the Xbox app, you'll have. What are the chances XBOX delivers an app for Mac OS X? Edit: Didn't make this clear originally, but I would LOVE to see this, as I always have my macbook open when I'm gaming. Would love a full keyboard option for messaging, managing my account, etc. Yes, I use the iOS app, but OS X please! The PTZOptics camera control application controls pan, tilt, zoom cameras connected via IP and USB and provides maximum flexibility for video productions. After an extended beta-testing period, Apple launched updates for all of its operating systems today, including macOS, iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and tvOS.
In general, the updates are focused on supporting the various new products Apple announced last week, as well as implementing App Tracking Transparency, fixing bugs, and adding new features and tweaks to existing software like Safari, Music, and Reminders. We'll discuss iOS and iPadOS (as usual, arguably the biggest updates) in another article. For now, here's what you can expect to see in today's tvOS, watchOS, and macOS updates.
tvOS 14.5
While tvOS releases like this are usually just bug-fix updates, there are some new features of note this time around.
Like the latest updates to iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, tvOS 14.5 adds support for the PlayStation 5's DualSense controller and the Xbox Series X S controller. Many of the games on the Apple TV require traditional controllers to play. tvOS already supported the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One controllers, so this update just makes the Apple TV work with the newer-generation gamepads.
Additionally, tvOS 14.5 adds the 'Adjust Color Balance' feature that Apple talked about during its event unveiling the new Apple TV 4K last week. While the company demonstrated it on the new model, this feature is also available on prior models like the 2017 Apple TV 4K with this update.
Adjust Color Balance uses sensors in your iPhone to analyze the conditions of your surroundings and automatically adjust the color balance of content on the Apple TV to something approximating industry-standard specifications.
The much-talked-about App Tracking Transparency privacy requirement that has been so controversial on iOS will also be enforced on tvOS starting with this update. Finally, tvOS 14.5 is the first version of the Apple TV software to support the new Apple TV 4K and the redesigned Siri Remote that comes with it (the new remote also works with older models and can be ordered separately).
watchOS 7.4
Today's Apple Watch update is a small one, meant primarily to support a new feature in iOS. That feature is the ability to unlock your phone with the Apple Watch when Face ID is obstructed by a mask. Apple writes the following in its release notes for watchOS 7.4:
iPhone can use your Apple Watch to unlock when Face ID detects a fact with a mask. Your Apple Watch must be nearby, on your wrist, unlocked, and protected by a pass code.
AdvertisementBelow: Photos of the Apple Watch Series 6 and its accessories, from our review published last September.
watchOS 7.4 also adds ECG and irregular heart-rhythm notification support to two new regions (Australia and Vietnam), the ability to 'classify Bluetooth device type in Settings for correct identification of headphones for audio notifications,' and the ability to stream audio and video from Apple Fitness+ workouts to AirPlay 2 devices. Apple has published the full release notes for watchOS 7.4, but we covered all the main bullet points here.
macOS Big Sur 11.3
macOS Big Sur 11.3 is the largest of the three updates we're discussing today. It includes several new features and optimizations for M1 Macs and various apps like Music and Safari, among other things.
AirTags support
Last week, Apple announced and began taking orders for AirTags, its new Tile-like geolocation devices. This macOS software update adds support for AirTags. Users can use macOS's Find My app to find lost items to which they've attached AirTags, like purses, backpacks, or wallets.
Improvements to iOS and iPadOS apps on M1 Macs
One of the key promises of the new Apple Silicon chips in the latest Macs—such as the M1 seen in last year's MacBook Air, low-end 13-inch MacBook Pro, and low-end Mac mini (as well as the just-announced 24-inch iMac)—is that Macs can natively run iPhone and iPad apps, giving them access to thousands of high-quality apps that weren't previously available.
We were very critical of the iPhone and iPad app experience when we reviewed the first Apple Silicon Macs late last year. We found that input could be a pain, and the apps were often presented in static, unresizable windows that made for a poor experience.
Below: A gallery of our various observations about iPhone and iPad apps running on M1 Macs, from our Mac mini review in November. This gallery reflects the state of things before today's changes.
Apple has addressed some (but by no means all) of those problems with macOS Big Sur 11.3. Users can now tweak an iPhone or iPad app's window size, and certain keyboard and mouse inputs can now be used in place of some types of input that are available on mobile devices.
Safari
macOS updates usually have a big focus on Safari, and that's generally true with this one, too. You can now customize the start page section order, support has been added for WebM and Vorbix video and audio formats, and new features and APIs have been implemented for developers.

Xbox App For Macs
All three updates are available to supported devices worldwide right now.
Xbox 360 Controller Driver is a driver that supports the Microsoft Xbox series of controllers including:
- Original Xbox
- Original Xbox controllers are supported by using a USB adapter.
- Xbox 360
- Wired Xbox 360 controllers are supported directly.
- As of macOS 10.11, Wireless Xbox 360 controller support causes kernel panics. This issue cannot be resolved with minor changes to the driver, and requires that the driver be re-written from scratch to resolve the issue. Due to an excess of caution, we have disabled Wireless Xbox 360 controller support as of 0.16.6. If you want to use a wireless controller, download 0.16.5 or earlier and disable the driver before the computer enters a 'sleep' state in order to prevent kernel panics. Alternatively, you can revert to a macOS version before 10.11 to avoid this issue.
- Xbox One
- Xbox One controllers are supported when connected with a micro USB cable. Using the controller with the Wireless Adapter is not currently supported.
- Bluetooth capable Xbox One controllers (released after August 2016) are natively supported by macOS without the use of this driver. However, installing this driver will allow you to use the controller via USB.
The driver provides developers with access to both force feedback and the LEDs of the controllers. Additionally, a preference pane has been provided so that users can configure their controllers and ensure that the driver has been installed properly.
Controller support includes ALL devices that work with an Xbox series piece of hardware. All wheels, fight sticks, and controllers should work. This includes things like the Xbox One Elite controller. If your hardware does not work with an Xbox console we cannot support it. Sorry.

Creating your first project in Visual Studio
For more detailed information, see Set up your UWP on Xbox development environment.
For C#: Create a new Universal Windows project, and in the Solution Explorer, right-click the project and select Properties. Select the Debug tab, change Target device to Remote Machine, type the IP address or hostname of your Xbox One console into the Remote machine field, and select Universal (Unencrypted Protocol) in the Authentication Mode drop-down list.
You can find your Xbox One IP address by starting Dev Home on your console (the big tile on the right side of Home) and looking at the top left corner. For more information about Dev Home, see Introduction to Xbox One tools.
For C++ and HTML/Javascript projects: You follow a path similar to C# projects, but in the project properties go to the Debugging tab, select Remote Machine in the Debugger to open the drop-down list, type the IP address or hostname of the console into the Machine Name field, and select Universal (Unencrypted Protocol) in the Authentication Type field.
Select x64 from the dropdown to the left of the green play button in the top menu bar.
When you press F5, your app will build and start to deploy on your Xbox One.
The first time you do this, Visual Studio will prompt you for a PIN for your Xbox One. You can get a PIN by starting Dev Home on your Xbox One and selecting the Show Visual Studio pin button.
After you have paired, your app will start to deploy. The first time you do this it might be a bit slow (we have to copy all the tools over to your Xbox), but if it takes more than a few minutes, something is probably wrong. Make sure that you have followed all of the steps above (particularly, did you set the Authentication Mode to Universal?) and that you are using a wired network connection to your Xbox One.
Sit back and relax. Enjoy your first app running on the console!
That's it!

One of the coolest gaming features packed into Windows 10 is the Xbox app. It lets you remotely access your Xbox One console and stream games to a Windows 10 PC. This comes in handy when everyone is watching a boring movie on the living room TV where your Xbox One is connected, but you’d rather play Metro Exodus or Tom Clancy’s The Division 2.
Xbox Live Mac Application
So how does it work? In this guide we show you how to stream the Xbox One to Windows 10.
With Microsoft’s method, you absolutely cannot “officially” stream your Xbox One console over the internet like the PlayStation 4. As we’ve seen with Sony’s console, playing across the internet can produce quality and latency issues, sometimes to the point where streaming just isn’t worth the effort. This is why Steam and Microsoft chose to lock game streaming to your local network.
However, there is a method to stream the Xbox One to a Windows 10 PC across the internet, but it requires knowing how to access your router’s control panel and how to edit the settings. We provide those instructions at the end.
Use Ethernet or Wireless AC
For the best results, stream the Xbox One across your local network using a wired Ethernet connection. Of course, not everyone wants Ethernet cables strung across the house, as it’s visually ugly, even when draped along the walls and corners. The plus side with all these cables is that you won’t see the performance dips associated with wireless connectivity.
If Ethernet isn’t an option, fall back on a Wireless AC 5GHz access point. A mesh network is good due to the way it creates a blanket of connectivity versus the standard router that broadcasts from one point like a radio tower. A Wireless N 5GHz connection works as well, but you’ll see limited performance using a 2.4GHz connection on either network.
Microsoft also suggests using Powerline adapters as an alternative to wired connections. You need at least two units that plug directly into your wall’s power outlets to create a network connection through the electrical system. One unit can then plug into your modem or router via an Ethernet cable while the other unit plugs into the Ethernet port on the Xbox One. Unfortunately, Powerline technology heavily depends on your home’s wiring and breaker box, thus you may see better results using wireless connectivity instead.
Finally, you can plug an Xbox One controller into your Windows 10 PC to play games remotely. You can also plug a headset into your Windows 10 PC and communicate as usual with your Xbox One friends.
Let’s begin our guide on how to stream the Xbox One to Windows 10!
Xbox One
1. Press the Xbox button on your controller.
2. Scroll right to highlight the “gear” icon and access the System panel.
3. Choose Settings as shown above.
4. Select Preferences in the next window.
5. Select Xbox app connectivity listed on the right panel.
6. In the next window, enable the Allow game streaming to other devices setting located under This Xbox.
7. Enable the Allow connections from any device or Only from profiles signed in on this Xbox setting found under Other devices.
You’re done on the console side. Now let’s move on to Windows 10.
Windows 10
1. If you don’t have the Xbox app already installed on your PC, head here.
2. After installation, sign in to your Xbox Live account.
3. Select the console icon on the left menu labeled Connection as shown above.
4. The Xbox app will now scan the local network for your Xbox One console.
5. Select the console as shown above.
6. Rename the connection if you have more than one Xbox One console on the network.
7. Choose Connect.
Now that you’re linked, the Xbox app Connection panel should show a Now Playing screen. You’ll also see options for initiating the stream, testing the stream, and turn on the Xbox One. The More link opens a menu to disconnect the console, connect automatically, turn off the console, and forget the console.
You can easily change the quality of the Xbox One stream if the resolution is too low, or if the resolution is too high and causing network issues. Within the Xbox app, perform the following:

With your Xbox One console streaming to your Windows 10 PC on the local network, you can alter a few settings to access the console remotely from across the internet. This will require knowing how to edit settings in your modem or router.
Play from anywhere across the internet
1. If you haven’t already, follow the previous setup instructions for the Xbox One and Windows 10. Make sure this connection works correctly before moving forward.
2. Go into your router and assign a “static” IP address to your Xbox One console. This method varies by manufacturer.
3. Locate the port forwarding panel in your router and reserve the three ports listed below. Make sure the forward-to address is the same static IP address you assigned to the Xbox One. Use your console’s name as the rule description if needed. Here are the ports:
