Setting up Oculus – Hardware
Step 1: Connect Headset Cable to your computer
Plug both the HDMI connector and the USB connector to your computer. If your computer does not have a HDMI input, you can also use the DVI included in the box.
Step 2: Connect the positional tracker cables
- Open the Sidequest app on your computer. Connect the Quest to your computer via USB cable. Put on the Quest headset – you should see a window open asking you to Allow USB debugging. Check the box labelled Always allow from this computer and click OK. Your Quest and computer are now set up for sideloading using the Sidequest app.
- Download Oculus 1.52.0.0 for Windows. Fast downloads of the latest free software! The macOS version of the streaming app will not support streaming PC VR content to the Oculus Quest, a feature that is available to Windows 10 users who sideload an alternate version of the.

Therefore, I would like to feed the display image from the PC over to my iMac. On the Oculus forums, they said I could buy an adapter for one of my thunderbolt ports.

If your iMac is a 27″ iMac from either late 2009 or 2010 andWhonet for mac. the PC has a mini display port then yes you can use the iMac as an external display to the PC. With runtime 0.4.4 I am able to access the Oculus Configuration Utility app, and can run the demo scene just fine, so I know the headset works with the operating system (I tried runtime 0.5.0.1, and I was not able to run the config utility).

In summary, if you’d like to use the Oculus Rift on your Mac, you can’t.
Getting Started (Mac) 5.1.0p1 onward works with Oculus Runtime 0.5.0.1-beta on Mac (10.9+). We plan to still support mac via 0.5.x runtime, but as Oculus announced, Windows + Gear VR is where Oculus’ primary focus will be for the near future.
